Peckham
Levels and textures.
This small courtyard garden in a densely packed part of London for a young family was briefed by our clients to unify lots of stepped areas into a single space whilst maximising available entertaining and play space.
We were tasked with introducing much more planting to create more of a green oasis whilst ensuring a child friendly space as paramount.
We utilised a raised planter with a sleek cantilever bench seat to minimise the seating footprint and provide vertical space for planting and brought in lots of textural plants to create curiosity and a sense exploration in playing with the garden.
Comfort and privacy.
With only a low 1m high boundary wall acting as the border between neighbouring properties the garden was widely overlooked and occasionally trespassed. Critical to our brief was increasing the boundary height and creating a comforting sense of enclosure and privacy.
By doubling the wall height using a warm slatted timber trellis. Employing a multitude of climbers that will gradually spread to provide a colourful and fragrant surround along with small to medium trees that will grow for additional screening.
Finally orienting the seating towards floor-to-ceiling sliding doors opening into the open plan living space, we’ve created a space that centres in on itself becoming a relaxing and private haven.
