South Hampstead I

A space of journey.

Key to this brief was to transform the relatively bare garden into a unified space that retained a sense of openness whilst introducing destination spaces to explore. Creating a relaxing but flexible zone with a sense of sanctuary and enclosure without introducing built structures that broke up the space was critical to our client.

A space of lusciousness.

We were tasked with a new planting scheme throughout the garden with a focus on year-round interest, only keeping the existing creeping roses on the fence. The planting was to a pink and white palette that provided a loose and free planting feel whilst retaining an overall linearity within the space.

A space of entertaininment.

Essential to the brief was the incorporation of flexible social spaces for large and small groups. The house patio was expanded to create more usable space for outdoor dining on a day-to-day basis with the ability to comfortably expand.

Tiered seating at the rear of the garden with a dedicated dining area and casual seating surrounded by planting and water features for a more natural setting was also developed. The tiering means that the upper level can be packed away when the pop-up pool is in use during summer and there is the lower tier for seating and entertaining nearby.
