Ladbroke Grove
Our Ladbroke Grove project centres around revitalising and maximising space in a compact front and rear garden following a full top-to-bottom renovation project undertaken on the house.
Our clients are a very busy young professional couple with their first child on the way with a challenging brief consisting of many elements. The design needed to be efficient in its use of space, increased privacy in a densely populated area, low maintenance in its planting but ensuring lusciousness with year-round interest and provide a space with a sense of openness.
A garden studio for work and visiting family from abroad was a predetermined part of the garden and needed to be incorporated into the rest of the design. Additionally, it was key that we created a space that was simple to maintain and flexible to host larger groups of guests whilst providing a safe and enjoyable play area too. A final complexity within the project was our need to adhere to a heightened level of permeability requirements because of planning conditions on the wider project.
As the house extension created an L-shape nook, we created a bespoke cantilevered bench with a minimal structure to leave a clear site line beneath seating area that could also double as a daybed and allow for a more compact dining area. The space was split into a paved area and lawn area with small margins around the perimeter to accommodate lush climbers with a small amount of underplanting.
On the garden room we created small planting zones either side of the doors and introduced two small trees that are espaliered against the garden room façade. To increase privacy, we created cedar slatted trellis extending the full perimeter of the garden. This trellis structure started midway up the exposed brick wall and contains stainless steel cabling to provide support for training the climbers.
This project is on site and under construction with an expected finish in late October 2022. You can view more of this project on our projects page.
