Our Hammersmith project is currently on site and under construction. The project centres around creating an intimate entertainment area at the rear of the garden that can be used year-round with a cosy sense of enclosure that is suitable for adults and young children.

The space is to feel like an extension of the newly renovated house whilst also increasing privacy from the numerous overlooking properties which was a key concern for our clients. Whilst maximising enclosure and privacy it was also key to our clients that we maintained a strong connection with the outdoor elements as well.

The space also needs to work around two fully mature trees that dominate the garden but provide valuable privacy. The clients also briefed a complete renewal of planting throughout the garden, transitioning from a simple and minimal style near the modern, newly built extension to a wild, looser style of planting to encapsulate the rear entertaining area. An existing 10x4m lawn area that was to remain which allow for 1m deep beds either side before being surrounded by 2m deep beds that break up the space as you transition into entertainment area.

The core focus of this design was to use selected materials used throughout the renovation not immediately thought of as exterior materials and use repetition to give a feeling that the living spaces are bookending the garden as a single unified space.
