London Bridge
This London Bridge project is a public pocket park that is currently on site and under construction. Originally designed by Cityscapes for RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2022 to showcase St Mungo’s Putting Down Roots programme and was supported by Project Giving Back. The St Mungo’s Putting Down Roots programme has helped people recovering from homelessness develop their skills and rebuild their confidence through horticulture.
Bureau de Verde has been working for Cityscapes, in the relocation design, visuals, project assistance and planting for the rehoming of the 2022 Chelsea Flower Show garden to its permanent home at London Bridge.
Previously a shady, disused and inaccessible space, the design juxtaposes the energy of the bright colours in the planters, paving, walls and eventual panelled fence with the soothing natural embrace of the planting. This creates a vibrant, dynamic but tranquil environment for people to inhabit and be at peace with nature in a historically bustling area of the city.
Sustainability is at the backbone of this project with both the original show garden and the relocated space being constructed out of reused materials including incorporating materials originally used in RHS Chelsea Flower Show 20221 show gardens. The pocket park is midway through construction and expected to be open to the public late autumn 2022. You can see more of this project on our projects page.
